What We Do

The abuse of alcohol and other drugs can have devastating consequences for individuals and families, including higher crime and suicide rates.  At WNY United, we're especially concerned about the the welfare of the youngest, most vulnerable residents of our communities.  We believe it's not enough just to treat the effects of substance abuse.  It's also critical to understand and combat the causes - which is why our grassroots initiatives are focused on prevention.  Working with area schools and community groups, we teach proven strategies designed to raise awareness and discourage kids from using alcohol and other dangerous drugs.  To accomplish these goals, WNY United forges long-term School Community Action Team (SCAT) partnerships with area schools and communities to train key individuals to work collaboratively.  Together, we build comprehensive plans for preventing the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other dangerous drugs.  As an agency, we utilize the following four evidence-based strategies.

Building Life Skills

Research has shown that by building up their social competencies, we can help students avoid drugs.
