Joe Olgin - Prevention Specialist at School 80 and 89
My favorite lessons are the goal setting, and life planning lessons of the 5th grade curriculum. I have found that my greatest achievements in my personal and professional life have stemmed from my ability to set goals and work toward them. With the exception of cleaning my desk I have found success in both parts of my life. I feel that goal setting is the greatest skill we can pass on to our students.
In 2012/2013 my wife and I rode our bicycles to Alaska and back. This adventure took us 13 months to complete. We have now ridden our bikes from home and through 46 of the 49 continental states. After returning home I ran 3 marathons (Philly, Virginia Beach and Louisiana) with a best time of 3:36. I have also worked my way up the local amateur riding racing categories, even winning a race once.
In addition to working for WNY United, I now coach of 3 sports at Highgate Heights school 80 (one of my two placements). I coach Cross Country, Girls Basketball and Track. I have found great enjoyment in coaching because here I can witness them pursue there goals and either succeed or fail. Its the only place I am able to see the lessons we teach put into action.
