Julie Kilmer - Prevention Specialist in Lake Shore School District
In my spare time, I first and foremost love to be around family and friends. I have also been into photography for quite some time, and bring my camera almost everywhere! I especially love the Fall time, because that is when I get the most beautiful pictures. On colder days, I like to take advantage of the snow and go skiing.
In my free time I love to travel. I spent three weeks in Italy and I completely caught the travel itch! Another quirk I have is my love for old vinyl records. In the summer I love to go antiquing to find them- I have a huge collection! I am extremely passionate about music and movies, and this amazing city we live in!
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to have a profession that truly makes a difference. As I grew older, I also realized I wanted to work with children. I graduated this past summer from Niagara University with my Bachelors in Psychology, and I feel extremely lucky to have found a job that fulfills my dream of making a difference. I spent a lot of time in college conducting research and reviewing the literature on heavy episodic drinking in college students, and it really brought my attention to the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse.
I truly believe that shaping the minds of children, and giving them the right tools to make happy and healthy decisions can not only make them better humans, but will prevent them from making bad decisions involved with drug and alcohol abuse. The future is truly in the hands of our youth- it all starts with them!
