Julie Schaefer - Prevention Specialist in Frontier Central School District
I love to read (I am always in the process of reading something and I usually have my kindle on me for when I have a few minutes), I love to exercise (and have set/days times when I go to the gym. Do not get in the way of my gym time!), and I love to be with and play with my kids (I love taking them apple picking in the fall, sledding in the winter, and to the beach in the summer! I'm constantly trying to find fun things for us to do as a family)
I'm inspired by people who follow their dreams, who aren't afraid to take the next step and go for something they are striving for. I'm also inspired when I learn or read something new. I love learning new things! Lastly, my kids inspire me. They don't let anything get in their way and are always trying new things. They inspire me to be a better mom and a better person.
I'm in nonprofit work to help make a difference in the lives of the students I work with. I am able to add something to a student’s life that they may not be getting elsewhere. If I help just one kid make good choices or stay away from unhealthy substances then I've done my job.
My hero is my mom. She has spent her life taking care of her family and making sure everyone is being helped. She is a wonderful cook and has always been the mom who had food waiting for anyone who stepped foot in the house and if you were a friend who came over you were staying for a meal. She has taught me so much and has always been there to help me in any way possible. Even now (with some medical issues) she is constantly wondering what she can do to help my family and I, worrying when she puts herself first and being upset when she cannot help in some way. She has tirelessly tried raising me to be a helpful, kind, and compassionate person.
Something quirky about me: I love a good calendar and I possibly keep way too many of them! I have my calendar for work, one at home, I have a calendar for each of my kids activities (and the lunch menu calendar), one on my computer and the calendar on my phone...most of these calendars have all the same information written on them. Maybe I'm scared I'm going to miss something. Who knows?
